Pantone colour of the year
Every year, the colour company Pantone comes up with their ‘colour of the year’. Now you may not have even heard of them but their choices have a huge influence on design, from textiles to sofas, to kitchens, wallpaper and even the clothes we wear.
This year, their colour is Mocha Mouse. Pantone describes it is as:
“A warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort”.
And, after a topsy-turvy year, that makes a lot of sense.

Pantone have some suggestions as to how to pair it with other colours in an interior setting and say it will work equally well in both minimalist and more richly decorated schemes. In the picture above, the design uses a range of very closely related colours and is what you might call ‘rich minimalism’.
Overleaf, there are two schemes Pantone have produced in collaboration with furniture company Joybird.

In another collaboration, this one with Spoonflower, you can see how Mocha Mouse works with textiles and wallpaper.

This kitchen design from Italian company Pedini shows you how well Mocha pairs with dark woods.

Here’s a more traditional shaker kitchen, with doors from www.kitchendoorworkshop.co.uk

And here are some more designs from dusk.com in similar colours and tones.
